No movie piracy here…

I was browsing through my server logs again (a great pastime for bored webmasters, heh), and came across this search request:

star wars download movie “attack of the clones” -trailer -xxx -vote -trailers -desktop -theme

What’s sad is that whoever did this search went through twenty-four pages of results that were probably more relevant, before stumbling across a completely unrelated blog archive here at zone38 that just coincidentally happened to contain all the terms they wanted and none of those they didn’t.

At least it’s not Dave Gorman

If you’re planning on travelling by airplane soon, you’d better make sure that your name isn’t some derivative of John Thomas. (link found on Metafilter)

Spyware taken to new heights

Ouch: One web advertiser has clandestinely installed spyware on users’ systems through a browser exploit. There is so much wrong with that, I don’t know where to begin. [Link via Fark.com.]

Confessions of the directionally challenged

A neat article that was linked on my site’s message forums: Turn, turn, turn: Finding your way in the world isn’t easy if you lack a sense of direction.

The sites mentioned in the article, incidentally, include this column from Kimberly Baumert and this journal entry from SecraTerri.

Really, I’m not alone. That makes me feel so much better.

Oh, wait, you’re over there? I’m sorry. 😉

[Updated 2003-03-03: The Baltimore Sun link had long expired, but the Wayback Machine still has the article; also, as a commenter pointed out, the link to Kimberly Baumert’s essay had also changed.]

MTV getting good again?

Whoa. I was just watching MTV, and saw a new video by someone I would’ve hardly expected to see on MTV: Paul McCartney.

Yes, that Paul McCartney.

I’m speechless. MTV has actually gotten good again.

More server log madness

Some more inexplicable search requests from my server logs:

  • blogger windows download movabletype – Eh?
  • x10 camera ad girls – Methinks the Proofreader’s Hall of Shame wasn’t what they were looking for.
  • “what the heck” intp – What the heck, indeed.
  • “hacked””iranian”farsi – I’m not sure which is worse, the fact that I don’t understand the query or those quotation marks.

It also amazes me how many people are led to the Proofreader’s Hall of Shame by misspelled searches involving the word “dowload”. Heh.

On the more serious side, a number of searches led to some quite useful material:

  • video game font
  • zelda font
  • secret of mana font
  • mr saturn font download
  • From Ask Jeeves: Where can I find a Legend of Zelda font?

I still can’t understand the redundancy within the search for font video game retro font, though.

And on a tangent, I got a rather surprising number of hits for things related to the infamous Goku toy instructions to which I alluded in past blog entries.

Oh, and last but not least, turns out I was also linked on Human Spell Check! Nifty. (Funny, I browsed the latest update and didn’t even notice the link, either…)

$10 mice? Impossible!

Need a new mouse for your computer? Amazon.com’s got optical mice for $10 each. I’ve gone ahead and bought one, because my current mouse is becoming a bit stubborn; nothing like mice that, even after a good cleaning, still like to stick every once in a while…
