Stupid spammer redux

Actual spam subject line: “Hello lwallace ! NEW! Find out ANYTHING about ANYONE with your PC!”

My idea of a potential response: “Hello spammer ! Use your own product to discover that my username isn’t lwallace!”

Sigh. Will spammers ever learn?

Life as an INTP, part 42

As I’ve already mentioned, I’m an INTP personality type. Naturally, that’s something that’s rather difficult to explain to other people. But another INTP has attempted to explain the NT worldview– in a manner, of course, that will probably only be amusing to NT personality types.

Server outages AGAIN?

Well, I guess I was wrong about the server outages. Let’s just hope the one we had yesterday was not a sign of things to come…

Non Campus Mentis

OK, I absolutely have to get my hands on a copy of the book Non Campus Mentis one of these days. For those who haven’t heard of it, it’s a collection of mistakes taken verbatim from college students’ essays, almost all of them absolutely hilarious– something along the lines of Richard Lederer’s infamous “World According to Student Bloopers“, done with some refreshingly new material. Read a few samples here and here to see why the book’s gotten such good reviews– seriously, you just can’t make this stuff up.

MovableType 2.5

I upgraded my weblog interface to MovableType 2.5 today; having been moved to a new virtual server by JaguarPC (an end to the lamented Zone38 server outages of the past?), I had to do some routine maintenance on my MovableType installation anyway, so I figured that now was as good a time as any.

I’ll admit that such upgrades normally don’t mean much to the average web surfer, but MT2.5 offers a new feature which I’ve wanted to have on my weblog for quite a while and which was simply too good to pass up. What is it, you ask? Well, look a bit more closely at that menu in the upper-right corner, and you shall find…

Beware the Georgia bird…

Jabberwocky. What a wonderful poem. Unfortunately, artificial intelligence still has a long way to go before it grasps the poetic genius of Lewis Carroll. (See also this previous blog post of mine…I thought I had done this topic before!)

From the “it wuz bound 2 happn lolol!!!11″ department: Instant messaging impacts kids’ grammar. And note that, as little as I post here lately, I still do so in complete sentences with correct punctuation and with no pointless abbreviations. ;-)

Gotta love those childhood beliefs

I used to believe, back in kindergarten, that “habit” and “habitat” meant the same thing. I used to believe when I was a toddler that all TV shows were filmed in the local station’s studio (illogical as I realized that premise was!). I used to believe that “brat” was a dirty word. What did you use to believe?

There’s no need to fear–ooh, shiny things!
