A winner is me!

And continuing with the search request theme… on the night of Sunday, August 10, shortly before 7:30 PM EST, someone did indeed stumble across Zone38 by searching for Bonzi game show.

I told you it was going to happen eventually. 😉

Still more Google abuse

Yet another insane search request found in my server logs: i want to dowload super mario word and super mario free dowload game.

Now, admittedly, I’ve gotten searches for “mario word dowload” before, but this one’s just surreal. Why add “I want to”? What’s with the doubled “dowload”; is searching for it only once not enough? The mind boggles…

Also from the logs: “can you hear me now” is annoying! All I can say is that I heartily agree…

Attack of the annoying Adobe ads

Since a quick Google search turns up only two sites mentioning this option, I figured I ought to spread the word about it on my blog, because I know I’m not the only person who finds this annoying…

For those who haven’t downloaded it yet, Adobe’s Acrobat…err…Adobe Reader 6.0 has some useful new features, but one of those features is a small advertisement which needlessly takes up space on the right-hand side of the toolbar (even when viewing PDFs within the browser!).

It turns out, however, that this ad can be turned off. The solution, however, is completely non-intuitive: in the Preferences window, under Startup, un-check the “Show Messages and automatically update” box.

Engish Spoken Here

Finally, I’ve gotten around to scanning the infamous (at least around Mercer’s campus) flyer sent out by Mercer’s English– or should I say “Engish”?– department last semester. Normally I wouldn’t be so picky about a one-letter typo, but considering the word that was misspelled and the department from which it came, this one is deliciously ironic…

More pointless but fun linkage

A rather interesting interactive musical animation (for lack of a better description) that I stumbled across today: Legato.

Fun with Windows errors and search requests

Hah. I knew it. Someone stumbled across my weblog yesterday by searching for “the semaphore timeout period has expired”… an error which I mentioned on my blog after having experienced it myself this past Wednesday.

Also from the search request files: INTP chess Monty Python. I just find this one oddly interesting; that’s all…

Anyone seen the video for Coldplay’s “The Scientist”? If not, go watch it in Windows Media format at MSN (of course, you’ll need a fairly decent connection for it to be viewable).

It’s very surreal, to say the least, reminiscent of the works of Michel Gondry; like the movie Memento (to which many reviewers have compared it), the video tells a perfectly coherent story, with the added twist of being entirely in reverse. It’s a perfect visual pun on the chorus of “going back to the start”. And yes, lead singer Chris Martin really did learn the lyrics backwards for the video shoot, a fact which Martin compared to speaking an alien language and, obviously, quite an impressive task in itself.

Googlewhack adventures

From the server logs tonight, I see that some Canadian surfer discovered my site by searching for various INTP-related phrases including INTP observation and INTP bad drivers. Amusing enough; I’ve had similar searches lead to my site before, as I mentioned a while back.

But no, this person didn’t stop there, instead going on to search for INTP non-drivers, a combination of words for which my own site was the only result. In other words, I’ve been Googlewhacked!

(Incidentally, I don’t mind being the sole result for INTP non-drivers; in fact, I find it quite entertaining, not to mention that I enjoy the honor…)

Why not try Morse Code instead?

Inexplicable Windows error message of the day, seen when the connection was interrupted while trying to copy files to a network drive:

“The semaphore timeout period has expired.”

I understand why the message happened in this case, but what in the world is a semaphore timeout period? Apparently it’s a fairly common error, too… but it’s just so cryptic.

Guaranteeing more introvert-related search results…

Amusing spoof of the Friendster community site: Introvertster. I’ve seen this link on way too many blogs, and shy guy that I am, I couldn’t resist succumbing to the meme as well…
