The spamonyms just don’t stop

Still more bizarre pseudonyms taken from the From lines of junk e-mail:

“Narration H. Hangnail”, “Satirizes J. Bucolics”, “Expense F. Bellyache”, and “Beatifies A. Backwards” were all trying to sell me medications.

Meanwhile, “Socorro’Looney” was trying to sell me a mortgage. Or, more accurately, a “mort[gage]”. Hey, can’t be any more looney than Senor Cardgage

Clumsy ramblings

Aiee. I’m such a klutz, it’s pathetic. :-\

Y’see, Mercer University was co-sponsoring a concert by rock band Sister Hazel in the new University Center, and students got free admission as part of the deal. So I decided to go. Though it was a bit loud, I got over it quickly enough, and by the time they got to their biggest hits, I was getting quite heavily into it.

But that’s not what I’m ranting about.

No, I’m ranting about the fact that this event once again proved how much of a klutz I am.

Ah, old-school bitmappy goodness

Though this will probably only interest a few of you, I’ve added several new Bitmap Font Writer fonts to my font page. Enjoy.

Return of the cow-puter

Oh, yeah, I’m back on my own laptop now– yes, the one I sent off for service earlier this month. I honestly don’t know why I didn’t post about it earlier– probably because I’ve just been so glad to have it back in working condition, with the display panel actually readable and with the fractures repaired that had been causing the USB ports not to work consistently. So yeah, I’m happy.

Anyway, classes start tomorrow today, in less than eleven hours, to be more specific… I suppose I’d better get to bed before too long.

Sweaty musing of the day

I’ve been living in Georgia since I was born– come December, that will have been 22 years– and I still find the summer heat and humidity to be utterly oppressive at times. It’s sad, I know, but unfortunately it’s all too true…

The latest from the nonsensical spam files

All formatting, of course, is exactly as in the original. As is all the nonsensical gibberish. Only the link has been changed, to avoid promoting the spammer’s site.

In which ‘Microsoft’ and ‘robust’ are used in the same sentence

I was just trying to install Windows XP SP2 on my dad’s old computer, when right in the midst of the install, the computer decided to randomly freeze up, as it is sometimes wont to do.

I rebooted into safe mode, and guess what? It actually managed to recover from the crashed install, getting me to a point where I could safely uninstall it. I was expecting far worse, but in the end, I didn’t even need to get my Windows CD out to do a manual uninstall!

Wow. Who’d have expected Microsoft to actually write an installation procedure that robust?

Don’t know much about geography

This is just funny: Fool’s World Map, a map based upon the geographical misunderstandings of a whole lot of people. Let’s just say that, as directionally impaired as I may be, I’m not even remotely as bad as some of the people who’ve inspired this! (via BoingBoing)

Ruminations on a thrice-broken computer

Well, this is the third time in three years that I have to send my computer to Gateway for service. This time, the LCD screen literally came disconnected from the computer at the hinge, thus rendering me unable to see anything unless I’m plugged up to an external monitor (as I currently am). >_<

This time, I didn’t make the mistake of using the (still probably offshored) phone support to call in my service request… the web chat was much easier, what with my auditory processing disorder. Sure, the technician was still probably in India, but accents are a lot less noticeable in text. 😉

Really, this computer’s just been bad ‘moos’ for me… even if I have been milking it for all it’s worth these three years. At least I haven’t been given a lot of bull by support, though. I just hope I don’t have to send it in an-udder time, since it’ll be out of warranty after this month. OK, OK, I’ll stop with the bad bovine puns…

Bad proofreaders of the world, untie!

Fans of the Proofreader’s Hall of Shame (which I really, really need to update) might also be amused by BBspot’s BBloopers and Doh, The Humanity.
